Joana Cabral, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Universidade do Minho

Dr. Joana Cabral brings a novel physics-based approach to neuroimaging research, driving the field toward deeper mechanistic insights into brain function. Her pioneering work encompasses the development of brain network models incorporating oscillatory dynamics and advanced analytical methods. Her experimental studies in rodents have revealed how resonant waves drive correlations between distant brain regions, providing fundamental insights into the organizing principles of brain networks.

Dr. Cabral received her education as a Biomedical Engineer before pursuing her PhD in Computational Neuroscience under the supervision of Dr. Gustavo Deco in Spain. Following her postdoctoral research at the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University, UK, she is now an established researcher at the Medical School of the University of Minho, Portugal, building a strong foundation that bridges engineering principles with clinical applications in neuroscience.
