Subject: New Submission Deadline – plus more in the November OHBMonthly digest
From: info@humanbrainmapping.org

Dear members of the Brain Mapping community,

As the Council Chair of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM), I am thrilled to welcome you to the November issue of OHBMonthly.

OHBM has always been committed to the inclusivity of all participants and this year, a significant step was taken to enhance this commitment as a response to visa related issues for many of our members attending OHBM over the last few years. OHBM Leadership decided to shift the content submission process to an earlier launch date and deadline. This change was made to expedite the acceptance process, particularly for those experiencing this issue. The goal was to ensure that our Annual Meeting is accessible to all, and this adjustment was a testament to that commitment.

Over the last several days, we have heard the request of the community, and as a result, the decision has been made for the content submission deadline to be extended to Friday, December 1, 2023. This one-time shift affects all content - Abstracts, Symposia, Roundtable/other submissions, and Educational Courses. Content can be submitted here.

Please review the new timeline below:

December 1, 2023: Submission Deadline @ 11:59pm EST, USA

December 8, 2023: Review Site Opens

January 4, 2024: Review Deadline @ 11:59pm EST, USA

Thank you for your understanding. Please keep reading for the latest news within our thriving OHBM community! With gratitude, I eagerly look forward to continuing to serve the community as Council Chair in the coming year.

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee (DIC) are accepting applications for the ‘‘Brain Mappers of Tomorrow - Korean Session" at the 2024 annual meeting

  • Previously called ‘Multilingual Kids Live Review’, this initiative aims to have children learn about your scientific work and get them excited about science and the brain. See past events here.
  • The presenter is expected to submit a short manuscript (in English) for children to review and then be published in the journal "Frontiers for Young Minds (FYM)"
  • Each session requires volunteers for least 2 moderators and 1 presenter who can speak Korean/English.
  • If you would like to volunteer or have further questions read more and apply here!
  • Queries can also be directed to ohbmdic@gmail.com

The Sustainability and Environmental Action (SEA-) SIG published a summary of their OHBM 2023 Symposium

  • The symposium, titled ‘Actionable Neuroimaging-Focused Steps for Curbing Climate Change’, was intended to raise awareness on the impact of aviation on the OHBM community's carbon footprint and to offer practical recommendations for reducing the energy consumption of computing.
  • If you missed this important event, or want to revisit the points discussed, read the SEA-SIG’s recent post on the OHBM Blog

Season 4 of Neurosalience has begun, with two new episodes released in October.

  • In an introductory episode, host Peter Bandettini and new production lead Ömer Faruk Gulban chat about their highlights of the past season, what to look forward to in season 4, and an update on one of last years most talked-about papers.
  • Episode 2 features the recording of the live podcast session recorded at this year’s annual meeting in Montreal. The episode features a panel discussion on Mapping Individual Differences in the Human Brain with Ana Luísa Pinho, Enrico Amico, Emily Finn and Tim Laumann, hosted by Alfie Wearn.
  • Keep an eye out for new episodes every other Wednesday!

Are you passionate about effective communication and eager to contribute your skills to the Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM)?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We invite all OHBM members to submit applications to join the OHBM Communications Committee (ComCom). Our mission is to provide accessible, actionable information to the brain mapping community through various channels, such as the OHBM Blog, NeuroSalience podcast and our ‘OHBMonthly’ digest.

We're looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about promoting scientific communication, bridging gaps, and delivering valuable content to our members to serve for the next two terms (culminating in the 2024 and 2025 OHBM meetings in Seoul and Brisbane). To learn more about ComCom please refer to our past blog post.

Due to the upcoming annual meetings being located in Asia and Australia, we are particularly looking for individuals who are currently located in Asia–Australia or who have significant ties to the human brain mapping communities there.

To apply, please fill out this short form.

Many neuroimaging jobs were added to the OHBM job board in the last month! Here are some recent spotlight positions:
